Bio and contact information for: Doris Wright

Doris Wright is the City Director for Ward 6.  A native of Lake Village, Arkansas, she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and Sociology from the University of Arkansas at Monticello.  She has also received a Certified Public Manager designation from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Director Wright was first elected to the City Board of Directors in November 2006.  She was reelected in November 2010.  She served as the first female African American Vice Mayor of the City of Little Rock from 2012-2014.

She is a past president of the John Barrow Neighborhood Association.  A longtime advocate for the John Barrow area, she has been involved in the Parkview Arts & Science Magnet High School Parent Teacher Student Association.  Across the street from Parkview is the Sidney S. McMath branch of the Central Arkansas Library System.  Directors Wright was instrumental in the placement and construction of the library in that neighborhood.

In 2005, Director Wright established and remains heavily involved in the West Central Sports Complex.  She has served as director of that organization and the sports leagues which play there.  In 2015, over 1100 youth played sports there.  She has also established the West Central Senior Activity Center and is coordinating the work on the West Central Community Center which is currently under construction.  The Community Center is a project that has been 25 years in the making and will have a separate Aquatic Center and will be the first community center in the state to have a community radio station.  The community center is scheduled to open in August 2016.

Director Wright developed the Ward 6 Transformation Plan which completed a comprehensive assessment of all 23 neighborhoods in Ward 6.  The plan recommended twelve projects to improve the area.  Three of the projects have been completed, one is currently under construction, two are going out to bid and the remaining projects are in the planning phase.

Director Wright was honored as the 2005 Rotarian of the Year from the West Little Rock Rotary Club.  She attends Second Baptist Church on John Barrow Road.  Director Wright is a member of the Eta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Little Rock Gamma Nu Chapter.
