Public Education Division
The Public Education and Community Outreach Division, headed by Assistant Fire
Chief Don Kinney, is made up of the Fire Marshal, Assistant Fire Marshals,
Plans Review Office, Inspection/Investigation Personnel, Public Education
Officer, Community Outreach Personnel, and an Internal Investigation Unit that
investigates both citizen and internal personnel issues. The following is a
list of facilities inspected and functions dealt with by this division on a
daily basis:

Origin and cause investigations of structure fires – commercial and residential

Origin and cause investigations of automobile fires
-
Burn permits issued and monitored – commercial and residential
-
All child care facilities inspected annually as required by the State of
Arkansas Department of Human Services before licenses will be issued

Private homes used for foster care
-
Nursing homes
-
All public schools 2 times a year as required by Arkansas State Law

All private schools
-
Any building used for public assembly
-
All high rise buildings
-
All restaurants and building that have commercial cooking operations and serve
the public

Fire lanes designated as the need arises
-
Fire lanes monitored for parking violations with citations issued
-
Fire hydrants monitored for other obstructions such as vegetation, fences,
structures, etc.

Conducting fire drills in public buildings, state buildings, and other
facilities when requested. Fire drills are required in some occupancies on an
annual basis

Monitoring of fire alarm, fire pump, fire sprinkler, and fire standpipe tests
-
Enforcing of fire codes, building codes, and life safety codes adopted by the
City of Little Rock and the State of Arkansas
