Mayor’s Car-Free Challenge

I would like to invite you to join me in the Mayor’s Car-Free Challenge where I, along with many citizens, will give up the use of our cars for a week! The challenge is Saturday, November 5 though Friday, November 11. Please consider joining me in this challenge. The health benefits are apparent and you will be helping the environment as well. I know you’re thinking “I can’t do that!” But please realize you can walk, bike, ride the bus or hitch a ride with a friend. You can even cheat a little if you must.

To learn more about this event, please join me at a “Learning Fair” this Sunday from 1-3 p.m. at the River Market. There will be a Central Arkansas Transit bus on hand so everyone can learn more about the bike racks on the bus and have other important questions answered by the experts, including:

  • What guidelines will help me walk to work safely?
  • Will I need a special kind of bike for commuting?
  • Should I have special clothes or equipment?
  • Can I carry all my stuff on a bike?
  • How can I clean up when I get there?
  • How can I cope with flat tires and repairs?

In order to participate, all you need to do is pick up a scorecard at the Learning Fair on Sunday or request one by emailing Please join me for the Mayor’s Car-Free Challenge Nov. 5th though 11th. Hope to see you this Sunday!
