Inclusiveness on Boards and Commissions

It is the goal of the City of Little Rock, Arkansas, that the Mayor, with confirmation by the City Board of Directors, shall make diligent efforts to appoint citizens of Little Rock to City Boards and Commissions so these bodies meet the goal of inclusiveness by reflecting the diversity of our City, recognizing that this goal may be impacted by Board and Commission positions that are designated by professions, organizations or by Ward representation.

UPDATE Applications for all City's Boards and Commissions can now be submitted at any time, whether or not there are current vacancies.  All applications will be kept on file for two (2) years and in the event a vacancy occurs on the Board or Commission in which you applied, your application will be forwarded to the Little Rock City Board of Directors for consideration.  

If you are interested in volunteering to serve on any of the City's Boards and Commissions, applications can be submitted in a variety of ways:

  1. By filling out the online application.
  2. By mail to the Little Rock City Clerk's Office, 500 West Markham Street, Room 200, Little Rock, AR 72201.
  3. By e-mail to cityclerksoffice@littlerock.org
  4. By fax to (501) 371-4857.

Construction Board of Adjustment and Appeals

Little Rock Revised City Code of Ordinances; Sec. 8-30 reorganized the Construction Board of Adjustment and Appeals from two (2) prior Boards. Its charge is to hear appeals of decisions and interpretations by a City Building Official, and to consider variances of the technical codes adopted or followed by the City. These codes include building codes, electrical codes, plumbing and mechanical codes for new and existing installations and structures.

Meetings are held on the 2nd Wednesday of each month (as needed) from 3:00 PM — 5:00 PM at the Building Codes Conference Room; 723 West Markham Street.

AUTHORITY: Little Rock Revised City Code of Ordinances; Sec. 8-30 (This ordinance eliminated the Board of Building Code Appeals and the Board of Electrical Code Appeals Boards by Ordinance No. 17,779, passed by the Little Rock City Board of Directors on July 7, 1998)
TERM: Four (4) Years
MEMBERS: Ordinance No. 20,694, passed by the Little Rock City Board of Directors on February 19, 2013,  amended Ordinance No. 17,779 and decreased the size of the Commission from seven (7) to five (5) members. 
DUTIES: To hear appeals of decisions and interpretations by a City Building Official, and to consider variances of the technical codes adopted or followed by the City. These codes include building codes, electrical codes, plumbing and mechanical codes for new and existing installations and structures.
SELECTION: Members of this Board are appointed by the Little Rock City Board of Directors, and shall consist of members with expertise in dealing with the various City Codes and who possess the following training and experience: 
A Registered Architect;
A Licensed Building Contractor;
A Registered Electrical Engineer;
A Licensed Mechanical or Plumbing Contractor;
A Registered Mechanical Engineer;
A Licensed Master Electrical Contractor; or
A Registered Structural Engineer

2nd Wednesday of Each Month (as needed)
