Maintenance Division Mission Statement:

The Fleet Services Maintenance Division mission is to respond to the City's fleet needs for vehicle and equipment services using creativity, flexibility, training depth, and technical expertise in performing simple or complex analysis, with total focus on program analysis, cost tracking, customer satisfaction, and quality workmanship.

J. Darryl Syler is the Maintenance Manager and is responsible for overseeing all shops and ensuring compliance with City Policy as well as State and Federal Regulations. Mr. Syler can be reached via email at jsyler@littlerock.org or by phone at 918-4208.

Fleet Maintenance Central Facility:

Fleet Services Central Maintenance Facility is located on J.E. Davis Drive in Little Rock. The hours of operation are 8:00 am until 9:00 pm Monday through Friday, closed on major holidays. This facility houses the fire shop, tire shop, heavy-duty truck shop, light-duty sedan shop and a paint and body shop. Mike McDonald is the Service Coordinator for this facility. He can be reached via email at mmcdonald@littlerock.org or by phone at 918-4211.

Satellite Facilities:

Fleet Services has three (3) satellite maintenance facilities located in the metropolitan area. Each of these facilities was planned in location, structure and function to most efficiently provide for the needs of the City Department's vehicle and equipment operators.

Landfill Maintenance Facility
10803 Ironton Cutoff Road
Little Rock, AR 72206
Phone #888-5081 Fax #888-2514

This on-site Fleet Services operation provides service solely to the Public Works Solid Waste Division's fleet of on and off-road vehicles. The Solid Waste Division fleet consists of over 160 units, including an assortment of large earthmovers (dozers, excavators, articulated dump trucks) as well as the City's sanitation units. All sanitation units are serviced at the Landfill maintenance facility. This facility operates on a five, and often six, day per week schedule with a day and an evening shift. Facility hours are 6:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and both day and evening shifts are staffed with four (4) Automotive Technicians, one Service Coordinator and one Parts Clerk. The facility is a full service operation, including an on-site parts inventory for serviced equipment, and contracting out only major repairs relating to engine, transmission and bodywork. Steve Underwood is the Service Coordinator at this facility. He can be reached via email at sunderwood@littlerock.org or by phone at 888-5081.

McKinley Street Maintenance Facility
201 S. McKinley Street
Little Rock, AR 72205
Phone #666-0465 Fax #666-1274

This facility provides service to approximately 600 units, including the Downtown and Northwest units of the Little Rock Police Department, as well as the Parks & Recreation, Housing and Neighborhood Programs, Planning and Development, and Public Works Departments’ vehicles and equipment assigned in the Downtown area. These units are primarily full sized sedans, pickup trucks and motorcycles. The McKinley Street facility is operating from a building rented from the University Mall Corporation and is located on their lot behind the Mall, facing McKinley Street. Office hours are from 7:30 am until 4:00 pm. The facility is staffed with five Automotive Technicians, one Automotive Team Leader, one Service Coordinator and one Parts Clerk. As with the Landfill and J.E. Davis locations, this facility is a full service operation, including an on-site parts inventory for serviced equipment, and contracting out only major repairs relating to engine, transmission and bodywork. Mike Williams is the Service Coordinator at this facility. He can be reached via email at mwilliams@littlerock.org by phone at 666-0465.

Along with the major duties performed at both the McKinley Street and the Central Facility on J.E. Davis, are the additional responsibilities of vehicle up fitting. Vehicle up fitting is the technical function of turning a newly acquired vehicle into a service ready Police or Fire Department unit. This is an extensive service function that includes installing and programming the video camera and computer systems, installing Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and prisoner containment equipment. This essential and critical function is one of the hallmarks of quality service, which previously could only be performed by outside contracted specialty agencies at a much greater expense to the City. Such achievements are made possible through the Fleet Services Department's commitment for continuing quality services through innovation and efficiency.
