Information Technology: Operations Services

The Operations Division is responsible for the City’s IBM mainframe systems, including a state of the art Z800 processor, Shark disk storage system, high speed Storage Access Network, and all data backup and recovery systems. Computer operators work day and night shifts to update data files, backup mainframe and server systems, and produce printed reports that are used by Finance, Courts and Public Works departments. The Operations staff provides first-level Help Desk support services to City employees who need general assistance with their computer workstation, and open trouble tickets when the requested support requires on-site assistance. The functional status of the City’s computer network is monitored by the Operations Services staff, who strive to detect network problems before they are visible to network users, and insure proper network operation.
