Planning and Development

Mission Statement

To enhance the quality of life for the citizens of Little Rock by providing a Department which encourages quality growth, development and redevelopment and the stabilization of neighborhoods through a concentrated effort of planning, land use controls, Historic Preservation, permitting and enforcement.

The Department

The Planning & Development Department consists of 40 employees in three divisions: Building Codes, Zoning & Subdivision, and Planning.   The Department  supports several Boards and Commissions: Board of Adjustment, City Beautiful Commission, Historic Commission, Midtown Redevelopment Advisory Board, Planning Commission, and River Market Design Review Commission.

Regularly scheduled meetings of the Little Rock Planning Commission and Board of Adjustment are held in the City Board Chambers, second floor City Hall, 500 West Markham.

Applications must be filed in person in our offices at 723 West Markham.  For application deadlines and hearing dates see the calendars for the Planning Commission or Board of Adjustment

must be filed by the dates set by the respective Commission in the offices of the Planning and Development Department (723 West Markham). 
 
The Midtown Redevelopment District #1 Advisory Board has developed a 'Statement of Design and Programing Expectations' to help guide development decisions within the district, you are encouraged to review them prior to submitting a development to the City for review.

Information on heritage tourism in Little Rock has been developed by the Little Rock Historic Commission.  Permit activity reports for this year as well as Annual Statistical reports are available in the Statisitics and Reports section.
