TWO LITTLE ROCK CITIZENS ELECTED TO NATIONAL POSTS

Bernard, Hart-Plant Chosen for Neighborhoods USA Board

The City of Little Rock will play a key role in development of neighborhoods throughout the country after elections last week at Neighborhoods USA (NUSA). Andre Bernard and Arma Hart-Plant were each elected to terms on the 27 member NUSA Board.

Bernard is Director of Housing and Neighborhood Programs. Hart-Plant is active in the University Park neighborhood. They will start their three-year terms in October and serve through 2010.

“I am so proud of Andre and Arma,” said City Director Joan Adcock who attended the NUSA conference in Baton Rouge. “They are outstanding people who genuinely care not only about their neighbors and neighborhoods, but also about empowering citizens to play active roles in bettering their communities. Little Rock is recognized as a leader in the Neighborhoods movement. The election of Andre and Arma reinforces this fact.”

Maggie Hawkins, an alert center facilitator for the City of Little Rock, served on the NUSA Board in the early 2000’s.

Neighborhoods, USA is a national non-profit organization committed to building and strengthening neighborhood organizations. Created in 1975 to share information and experiences toward building stronger communities, NUSA now continues to encourage networking and information sharing to facilitate the development of partnerships between neighborhood organizations, government and the private sector. There are approximately 1,100 members.
