Earth Day Celebrated
Public Relations Manager
(Little Rock – April 22, 2011)
Little Rock kicked off Earth Day 2011 this morning with a bang! Goldman Recycling announced to students at Don Roberts Elementary that they will recycle paper at their school for free. Seven other Little Rock schools will also take part in this generous service and next year all schools will be in the loop.
“This kind of private/public partnerships is an important way to improve and increase sustainable practices in Little Rock,” said Mayor Mark Stodola. “We are excited that Goldman Recycling is donating this service and that the children in our community can see first hand how their efforts to keep paper out of our landfill is paying off.”
Later in the morning, students at Williams Magnet School helped members of the Little Rock Sustainability Commission plant two of six trees that have been donated to the campus.
“We lost many trees in the recent storm that swept our neighborhood,” said Principal Sandra Register. “By giving our school these trees, the Sustainability Commission is providing a gift that will last for generations to come.”
This is the second year that the City of Little Rock has partnered with the Little Rock School District to celebrate Earth Day.
