Little Rock Named in Nation’s
Best-Performing Cities Index
(Little Rock, December 19, 2011)
The Milken Institute has named Little Rock as one of the “Biggest Gainers” of jobs in the country for the year 2011. The Little Rock/North Little Rock/Conway area jumped from a ranking of 93 in 2010 to 19 for this current year.
“The recession has been difficult, but we have worked diligently to create a business friendly climate,” said City Manager Bruce Moore. “Also, we have an amazing work force and a quality of life that is very appealing to both U.S. based and international corporations.”
According to the Milken Institute, a range of factors were at work in the metro areas that made the biggest gains in the Best Performing Cities Index. Housing, technology driven economies and heavy durable equipment manufacturing all played a role.
“The Little Rock metro area attracts jobs in many sectors of the economy, making for a stable work environment,” said Mayor Mark Stodola. “Moving up 74 ranks in this index is a reflection of Little Rock’s commitment - of its leadership and its citizenry – to a pragmatic and optimistic approach to our future.”
